Middleware folks everywhere,

The "Steven Carmody of Brown University and IEEE" problem is how the Shibboleth project has traditionally framed the challenge of assembling information about a single principal from multiple identity sources. We have made general assumptions about the nature of aggregation that the community would like to be able to perform, but there has been no real dialogue to really collect use cases and requirements.

JISC in the UK has funded a project that intends to develop open source software to prototype a method of performing attribute aggregation. Shibboleth and SAML are strong candidates for underlying technologies to build upon, but there are many other relevant standards and technologies. Donating your requirements and potentially a few mental cycles would help focus the project on addressing your needs.

Please find attached a (fairly) brief questionnaire that asks many of the questions anticipated to be important. If you have a chance to fill it out, you can return it obligation-free to either myself at or David Chadwick at , preferably by April 23.

Many thanks,
Nate.
