Agreed. If we're going to spend effort on this, it should probably be trying to convince the tomcat folks to accept a patch that does what we want. I personally have 0 interest in supporting customized patched versions of tomcat. I don't have enough experience with the tomcat community to know how hight the barrier would be here.
