Just to be clear:

You can't skip endorsement with Shibboleth 1.2.x. After we produce a
distribution using the new JAXP support (presumably 1.3), you can skip
endorsement. However, the current (previous?) version of code requires
org.apache.xerces.* classes that are not in 1.5+Tomcat 5.5. You still have
to override the built in XML support with the currently endorsed DOM3-*
Apache jar files to get the DOMParser and other classes into a 1.5 JRE.
