Since I won't be on the call, my two cents...
My intention is to focus on a 1.1 compliant implementation, with some
allowance for operating in a 1.0 "mode" that should work with
0.8 components and may support some degree of hybrid interop between
versions, but only if it can be done without release delays.
But the strong argument on the target side should be that 0.8 is not secure
anyway, so remaining compatible was a goal but not a
100% requirement.
