I've been fighting with RPC on Solaris.. No matter how hard I try I
can't get it to work -- I think part of the problem is that Solaris
has TLI-on-the-brain and it just doesn't work if you don't use it "The
TLI Way" (regardless of what the documentation says). I've had a
couple friends with source try to help be debug, but no joy. None
of us could figure it out.
However, all is not lost. Last week I found an ONCRPC library on the
net at http://www.plt.rwth-aachen.de/ks/english/oncrpc.html (which was
ported to Windows). I pulled it down and re-ported it to Solaris
tonight, and then ported my rpctest app to this new library.
Amazingly, my test app works!
So, we've got a workable plan. We can use this library on Solaris and
Windows, and use the native RPC on Linux.
My plan, now, is to import the code into CVS, create an automake file,
and then get shib to start using it. I don't necessarily have a good
test for when it is safe to use the native RPC library. :(
Comments or suggestions are welcome.
