Hi Adam,

We appreciate your feedback on the program.  Getting the word out to teachers and securing live classroom participants for each of the sessions always proves to be the most difficult aspect of PPSP and is also what we spend the most time on.  It is always frustrating when we aren't able to find participants for a particular session or when we have our confirmed schools cancel due to weather, testing/scheduling issues, or any other number of reasons.  This was the case with the Hoover sessions and a few other sessions this year as well.  We know that our presenter sites put a lot of work into their sessions and we try our best to make sure we find students to attend live.

PPSP is currently undergoing a bit of a transition with our two new staff members (Stephanie and Tom) joining the program for 2019.  We will now be able to devote more staffing resources and time to all aspects of the program - including the all important early marketing phases.  We recognize that not all aspects of PPSP have been working as smoothly as they could be and we are actively making changes to try to address these issues.  Along with additional staffing, we will also be switching to the Zoom video service (rather than BlueJeans), as it seems to be a better fit for our distance learning programs.

We also have been talking about another point you brought up - the online afterlives of the program recordings.  We are exploring new strategies to get the most use of these really great resources and we welcome any ideas from this group about how we might be able to utilize these videos and extend their reach.

Stephanie and Tom have already brought some great new ideas to the program and we are eager to hear more from this group about things that you would like to see change and possible new directions for PPSP.  Thank you for getting this conversation started.

We hope Hoover and any other sites that may not be sure about continuing with the program will give it a second thought and attend the upcoming 2019 planning meeting (Email from Stephanie to follow...) to discuss further.

Thanks,

Matt

Thanks, Matt. Just speaking for myself and Herbert Hoover National Historic Site, and not for Elizabeth Dinschel or the other folks at Herbert Hoover Presidential Library & Museum, there are some things we'd like to consider before participating again.

If I recall there was only one kid online with us during the presentation and he didn't really participate. You told me afterward there might also have been a couple hundred others watching live but not participating online.

I imagine I would have put the presentation together differently if I had known there would not be any live participation, like posing open-ended questions followed by dead silence.

The live online presentations feel a little like programs in search of an audience. If all we need to do is record a presentation and post it on YouTube, I'm happy to consider doing that, but I don't see these videos getting a lot of use in their online afterlives.

So to sum up, I think this project has some worthy aims but I'm not sure if it's worth the effort. I assume you feel otherwise and I'd like to hear your case for it, or suggestions how we might make our participation more worthwhile.

Adam

Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much for your participation in the 2018 PPSP program series!  This year's program reached more than 1,000 students.  I appreciate all the hard work from our presenter sites and all of our partners who helped us spread the word to K12 schools across the country!

All of the recordings from this year can be found on our YouTube page:  https://www.youtube.com/user/internet2k20/videos

For next year's program, my colleagues in the Community Anchor Program here at Internet2, Stephanie Stenberg and Tom Giannettino, will be taking the lead.  We've had a few planning meetings already and I know they have some really exciting ideas for 2019!  Stephanie and Tom will be reaching out to the group later this summer to begin planning for the next installment.

Thanks again and please let me know if you have any questions,
Matt
