Either will run perfSONAR without problem.  Debian-derived distributions have typically included more-recent kernels that had more-current or experimental networking support; if you need the extra congestion control algorithms, I’d go that way.

 

To reiterate what Szymon said, 5.1.0 is currently in beta and not recommended for production use.
