Hi Raul,

Sounds like maybe there are two cases which may or may not be related. Let me re-phrase what I think you said to make sure all the details right:

- Case 1: You reboot a perfSONAR host and when that perfSONAR hosts reboot, “none" of the perfSONAR services are running? Is it really none, or just certain ones like pscheduler, opensearch, owampd, etc? Are things like httpd running?

- Case 2: The second case you describe is they “stop all services” but some (Opensearch and OWAMP were mentioned), don’t stop? How are they stopping services? Are they manually going through and stopping each one with "systemctl stop SERVICE_NAME”?

Thanks,
Andy

Hi Andy,

I had mentioned  in a github issue (I think 112) that pattern with restart. I mentioned:

·    Some services don’t come back to running even after reboot. This is still ongoing with 5.0.6 and EL9.

·    I have seen, and mentioned in that ticket, cases where stopping all services doesn’t really terminate all processes associated with perfSONAR. You stop and then you notice opensearch and Owampd are still there. And they seem to conflict with the new processes when you restart the perfsonar services.

Cheers,

Raul

Hi,

We build every package every time there is an update and it gets restarted on update, sounds like something is going wrong with that process. There’s no change in the code. There are also some updates we could explore to the systemd unit file to auto-restart things when it does crash.

Thanks,

Andy

Hi Phil,

I have found that every time MaDDash auto-updates, I need to reboot to get it working again.  It may be that I could also have restarted a set of services that might also bring things back, but rebooting was easiest.

As a viewer of Shawn’s dashboards, we can attest to that :).   I wonder what actually fails though.  It’s happened with every 0.01 update since 5.0.  And whether the service watcher might catch it in the future?

Hi Andy,

I always like to see new versions released!

This time I didn't see any reference to Maddash or EL9 (Rocky, Alma) changes, yet once the 5.0.6-1 pushed, my Rocky9 based Maddash grid stopped working!

All I see are the header/footers and the 'Dashboard  Report  Settings" line.  No grids show and none are listed under Dashboards.

At first I thought something had changed in the data flow but after several additional test builds, I can confirm this is the typical behavior under the new Rocky9 version of 5.0.6-1.

Can you think of the files that were touched that might cause this issue?  Or debug suggestions?

Thanks,
Phil

All,

perfSONAR 5.0.6 is now available. It includes bug fixes for various issues reported by users and detailed in the release notes here: https://www.perfsonar.net/releasenotes-2023-11-13-5-0-6.html

It may take some time for package mirrors to sync, so you may not see the release right away but should appear in the next 24 hours.  Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you,

The perfSONAR Development Team
