Hi Jeffy,

Why don’t you try replacing /etc/maddash/maddash-server/maddash.yaml with the default file. Steps to do that are as follows:

cd /etc/maddash/maddash-server

mv maddash.yaml maddash.yaml.bak

wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/esnet/maddash/master/maddash-server/etc/maddash.yaml

chown maddash:maddash maddash.yaml

systemctl restart perfsonar-meshconfig-guiagent

systemctl restart maddash-server

I know in a previous email you had indicated you thought maybe you had introduced some bad data trying to clean out the default values. FWIW, we have a release in 6 days that gives a default file that contains dashboards that get automatically cleaned-out the first time you run psconfig so you don’t have to go through that process anymore which can be error prone. 

If you still get the error after making the changes, send me your maddash.yaml so I can pinpoint exactly what is causing the issue.

If "generate_gui_configuration"  is nowhere to be found on your system, then you might miss the package and the installation step: http://software.es.net/maddash/mesh_config.html#installing-the-package

 

Please check the steps after the installation to be able to further automate the process of configuration updates.

Thanks for your reply.

I dont have have "generate_gui_configuration" in my /usr/lib/perfsonar/bin/ directory.I only have the following :

• build_json
• perfsonar_meshconfig_guiagent
• validate_json
• lookup_hosts
• validate_configuration

So I did guiagent stop and start instead. But I dont see maddash.yaml populated with anything.

Is "generate_gui_configuration" present elsewhere when i do it  in Ubuntu 16.04?

The official documentation for the configuration of the MaDDash service from a mesh configuration file is here: http://software.es.net/maddash/mesh_config.html

Please note the 4^th step.

 

In order to be sure the configuration had been successfully parsed, please check the “the maddash.yaml file”. It should be populated with configuration based on your mesh.

If there are problems please review and report back the events from /var/log/perfsonar/ folder, meshconfig-guiagent.log and meshconfig-agent.log files (if the statements are not clear)

 

As a final step: Please also restart the maddash service = sudo service maddash-server restart

I just started using MaDDash:Monitoring Dashboard. I'm trying to deploy it on my Ubuntu 16. 04 desktop.

I started following this tutorial [ https://learn.nsrc.org/perfsonar/install-maddash-mesh-configuration ] that installs MaDDash and the mesh configuration.

They start of by creating a simple conf file and they used "perfsonar-meshconfig-jsonbuilder" to convert it into json format and stored it in a place where it can be accessed by all the hosts.Mine is similar to the one found here: http://docs.perfsonar.net/multi_mesh_server_config.html

Next they installed maddash and did some modifications to the maddash.yaml file . Mine is as follows:
                   database: /var/lib/maddash/
                    serverHost: "localhost"
                   http:
                           port: 8881
Finally they installed "perfsonar-meshconfig-guiagent" and made modifications to meshconfig-guiagent.conf file to make it point to the json file. The only line modified was the following:  

<mesh>                 

configuration_url             https://localhost/Dashboard.json

</mesh>

When I restart maddash, I get the following error in "maddash-server.netlogger.log":

 

The tutorial teaches me how to do it CentOS, but since I'm implementing it in Ubuntu I'm not sure where I'm going wrong.

Any help would be appreciated
