Thanks for the ip. You pointed me in the right direction and now everything but esmond shows running. We have a strict umask and once I added read permissions to the .pid files, the other showed as running. Regarding esmond, I'm not understanding from Ivan's earlier response that there were significant changes going from 3.X to 4.X and I may have remnants of the old config lying around.

There are no extra steps, I think there was just a misunderstanding about the problems you were seeing. As for esmond, it actually just checks if httpd is running since it does not have its own process, so probably you need to make the same change to httpd.pid as you did the others. Hopefully that clears up the last of the issues you are seeing.
