Greetings;
Fixing the MTU at the host is only one part of the problem, recall that
for MTU to work correctly, all things in the broadcast domain need to be
configured in the same manner.
It does not appear that the MTU settings for something in the network
path are correct. Using ping between one of the ESnet hosts and your
hosts we can determine the settings that work, and those that don't.
E.g. this is the last size that works:
[rootjz@bost-pt1 ~]# ping -s 1464 -M do -c 4
14.139.5.202
PING 14.139.5.202 (14.139.5.202) 1464(1492) bytes of data.
1472 bytes from 14.139.5.202: icmp_seq=1 ttl=45 time=285 ms
1472 bytes from 14.139.5.202: icmp_seq=2 ttl=45 time=285 ms
1472 bytes from 14.139.5.202: icmp_seq=3 ttl=45 time=285 ms
1472 bytes from 14.139.5.202: icmp_seq=4 ttl=45 time=285 ms
--- 14.139.5.202 ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 4 received, 0% packet loss, time 3285ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 285.530/285.588/285.675/0.537 ms
And this is the first size (and larger) that doesn't:
[rootjz@bost-pt1 ~]# ping -s 1465 -M do -c 4
14.139.5.202
PING 14.139.5.202 (14.139.5.202) 1465(1493) bytes of data.
ping: local error: Message too long, mtu=1492
ping: local error: Message too long, mtu=1492
ping: local error: Message too long, mtu=1492
ping: local error: Message too long, mtu=1492
--- 14.139.5.202 ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 0 received, +4 errors, 100% packet loss, time
4001ms
Something in the network path is only allowing MTU of 1492, therefore
BWCTL (and probably a lot of other things) won't work. Once this is
fixed on the network, things will work again.
Thanks;

Hi,
What is the MTU setting on your host? I once saw these results
when it was 9000 but the rest didn't support it.
