For Intel card with non-Intel optics, you will need the following line in the file

/etc/modprobe.d/ixgbe.conf

options ixgbe allow_unsupported_sfp=1

Thanks!

We’ve used the same Myricom NIC with no issues.  We also use Broadcom 57810 cards from Dell.  The Myricom and Broadcom allow the use of generic optics without having to hack the driver like the Intel cards.  The Myricom card also has drivers for OSX and Windows 7 which the Broadcom card doesn’t.  I just found that Broadcom sold their card tech to QLogic, so that might be something against them.

Thanks,

Joseph B.

You do need to use an Intel coded SFP.  We got one from Newegg that works fine -  part #E10GSFPSR.

All,

Looking for guidance.

Getting ready to deploy a PerfSONAR box, any recommendations on 10Gb NICs, or is a “standard” 10Gb NIC fine, since this isn’t a DTN box?

Thanks,
