perfSONAR User Q&A and Other Discussion

All,

The perfSONAR-PS development team is excited to announce that perfSONAR_PS-3.3rc1 is now available for testing. This is considered a "release candidate" and NOT a production release. Please do NOT install this version on your production perfSONAR hosts. We need those willing to try the software on development machines to help us test so we can find bugs and move closer to a final release ready for production. 

This particular version of the toolkit contains a number of large changes including the following:

- The base operating system has been migrated from CentOS 5 to CentOS 6

- In addition to the LiveCD and NetInstall options, we also have a LiveUSB install option. It works exactly like the LiveCD but the toolkit boots from a USB drive

- All of the install options are now available in both 32-bit and 64-bit

- The Lookup Service has been re-designed and replaced

- The toolkit now has installed by default the "mesh configuration agent" used as part of a suite of tools provided to centrally manage multiple toolkits.

- There are also numerous other minor bug fixes and improvements that ill be included in a formal ChangeLog prior to the final release.  Given the large number of changes we expect to have multiple RCs before the final release and you can expect to see more changes as the process progresses. If you're interested in testing you can find links to all of the version below:

Note that this version currently does NOT support updates of old toolkits and you must do a clean install. Future RCs and the final release will support update functionality, but it is not yet fully supported. For those familiar with the NetInstall and LiveCD process of previous toolkits, this version is much the same.
