Hi all,
first of all I'd like to welcome in the New Year and send you best wishes.
Few weeks ago I've started discussion concerning services selftest Most
part of discussion took part locally in Poznań, because most Java
services developers are from Poznań. Just for quick remind:
* was: request for test is send by servlet WA to itself and then XML
input data is sent using SOAP protocol to the service; service responses
with XML output data and this data is compared to expected output - if
this is equal - test is passed, if it differs - test result is negative.
* will be: WA directly communicates with tested service servlet and
request via HTTP offered by service selftest, so function of WebAdmin is
visualization/presentation obtained from the service selftest results
We are on a right course, but before planed for spring 2010 release
there were some more important issues (eg. service performance etc.), so
now selftest implementation is more similar to past idea than to new
vision of service selftesting. Now XML response is not compared to
stored pattern, instead it is analysed if it contains errors - if not -
result is OK, otherwise test is failed and errors are displayed.
Implementation was not moved from previous version but written from
scratch and now the code is much more simple and easy to understand but
still it is WebAdmin's (not the service by itself) task to assume if
tested service works properly or not basing on received response.
Future vision of service selftesting was good evaluated but should not
be implemented in hurry, so will be implemented after planned for spring
release.
Best regards,
Wiktor
PS. Thank you all for your valuable remarks, notes and ideas in discussion.
