I can only say that RedHat5 (Dante test machine mdm-4.par.fr.geant2.net) 
and Ubuntu 8.04 (and previous versions) are fine to run pS services

Some time ego we decided to use eXist version 1.2.3 in the release 3.1. 
Also default Tomcat version for 3.1 is 5.5.

Repositories are remote locations where we can store our installation 
packages. Using yum (in case of rpms) or apt-get (in case of debs) we 
can install pS services without the need to keep installation files 
locally. These tools automatically can download packages from repositories.

Installation CD is a simple Debian distro with  pS stuff. This can 
install the system together with pS services.
