Hi Nina,CL-MP is one. Right now it doesn't register anything else than the "service.r" variables. I know this is not enough, it just hasn't been thought about yet. I can think of the need to register which tools are available (through eventType, of course), if scheduling is available, which tools need authentication and which don't.

Hello all,
We are discussing what information services should register into LS, besides service URL. Recently, Jason advised to recognize service type by eventtypes, rather than by arbitrary strings like one found in "servicetype" parameter.
This seems to work fine with RRD MA services, but not all other services submit information about eventtypes when registering to LS. Is there a guidance what schema should be supported in this case?
Could you be more specific? Which services are not registering eventTypes? This disrupts the dLS (and gLS) summarization model as well...
As Verena was asking, which schema defines this? I don't remember having a schema defined for registering the functionalities available to a service, but maybe this has been done, specially in the dLS work?
Sorry to be jumping into this discussion now, but is the "service type" mentioned by Nina just defining "MP" or "MA"?
Even if this is the case, I don't know how eventTypes (at least if we are not talking of creating new ones) can actually define this. Suppose we have a SQL-MA which serves OWAMP data (as obtained from CL-MP). It would register the "http://ggf.org/ns/nmwg/tools/owamp/2.0" eventType. But this is the same eventType that a CL-MP which permits OWAMP measurements would register. This is interesting and new to me.
Jeff, could you comment ?
On the contrary, this is most relevant.
Sorry if this doesn't apply to the discussion, I wasn't following it until now.

I think we should concentrate effort to fix this on the service registration side, not by adding heuristics on the client side (which would then need to be copied to every other client).

Hi Verena,
I can only refer to how it is currently done by RRDMA.
Nicolas - is there documentation what services should register into LS? Perhaps it is worth to bring this discussion to perfsonar-dev mailing list?
Yes, bring it there. We need a decision taken for early next week.
Please involve Pomodoros as he is the functional tester, he should (?) know where is the registration documentation and how it should be done.

Hi Verena,I can include eventtypes and I think this is a very useful information. Can you please point me to a schema definition how this should look like?
The reason for asking is that Jason recently advised us not to rely on
arbitrary strings in "servicetype", but on event types , that are
registered in the LS along with the topology elements. We are in the
process of creating an workflow for psUI, which will recognize the
service type based on the reported eventtypes. Do you have plans to
include this information in LS registration?
Thanks,
Verena

Hello all,Not really, this is still an open question!
We had a discussion today about LS usage and its integration with
perfsonarUI and I have the following questions:
* Can you point me to a some document, describing what BWCTL and
Hades services are registering into an LS, beside service URL.
At the moment, the services are only registering the following
information:
- URL
- contact information
- servicetype (MP/MA)
- name
- description
I would be quite happy to know what information, and in what format I
should register.
* Is there a lookup service, which already registers BWCTL and HadesFor test purposes I always used:
services?
http://selena.acad.bg:8070/axis/services/LookupService
* I could propose to use our new LS for registering these servicesI can configure the JRA1 boxes to take this one. (I have to update them
(for test purposes)
http://uran.acad.bg:8080/XML-LS/services/LookupService, but of
course anything else is welcome.
(see mails before), and can setup the LS registration then also.)
Kind regards,
Verena
