Nina,

It's very easy installing service from RPMs on debian.

1.You just need RPM:

  apt-get install rpm

2.Set up database (if not yet initialized) as root:

  rpm --initdb

3.Then download:

http://downloads.perfsonar.eu/dependencies/perfsonar-tomcat-6.0.7-1.i386.rpm
http://downloads.perfsonar.eu/dependencies/perfsonar-exist-1.1.1-1.i386.rpm

from:
  http://downloads.perfsonar.eu/dependencies/

4. Install RPMs (as root)

  rpm -i --nodeps perfsonar-tomcat-6.0.7-1.i386.rpm
  rpm -i --nodeps perfsonar-exist-1.1.1-1.i386.rpm

5. download XML-LS 1.2 RPM from wiki

  http://wiki.perfsonar.net/images/files/XML-LS-1.2-1.i386.rpm

6. install it:

  rpm -i --nodeps XML-LS-1.2-1.i386.rpm

7. run the service (as root?)

  cd /home/perfsonar/perfsonar-tomcat/bin
  ./startup.sh && tail -f ../logs/catalina.out

8. Test it with psUI :)
