Thanks,

I tried this class, and it still works. So no need to worry about licensing issues with the other class.

Stijn

Hi Sitjn,
there is a class in the WSS4J library that encodes/decodes in base64: org.apache.ws.security.util.Base64. It's a library that I'm using in some client authn libraries and in the AS (I've included in the ant script of perfSONAR base), so maybe you want to use it and you wouldn't need to include that external code.

Hi Nicolas,

I was most of all concerned about using the code, and then afterwards finding out that I wasn't allowed to do so by some license restriction I wasn't aware of. I don't want to be responsible for perfSONAR breaking copyright laws ;)

I did mention the guy in the author tag when I used the code, so I'm not taking the credit when it isn't my work.

So basically I was most concerned about the license, and I wanted to get a green light from the management to use it.

Stijn

Hi Stijn,
can you please tell me more specifically what triggered your question?
- the license
- courtesy to the guy who developed it
- advices from the developers on why to do it
- green light from the management
Cheers,
Nicolas

Hi,

During the development of the password encryption for the service.properties file for the SSHTELNET MP, I needed an implementation of the Base64 encoding. I found a link on google where it states:

"There are a lot of BASE64 encoding/decoding implementations in Java. For example, you may use my own implementation Base64.java." (http://www.izhuk.com/painter/product/doc/base64.htm).

I used this code in my implementation of the password encryption. Is this allowed? Or do I need to explicity ask him if I can use it? Or implement a Base64 encoding myself (although I feel this might be a bit of a waste of time)?

Regards,

Stijn
