Yes, you're right that we should find a better solution for the "MA down"
problem. We already have on our TODO list a related task (F09):

Yes, we will implement a more reasonable error reporting, which will hopefully
give the end-user an idea whether it's a good idea to try certain request
again or not.

Yes - this would be definitely the best solution, once we have reached an
agreement and deployed LS(es) which know(s) about all MAs. It's not a problem
to implement this in perfsonarUI - in fact it should be its default behaviour
(presenting a list of MAs, learned through LS(es) and having a high
probability to be alive).
