Hi Dimitrios;

The short answer to your question is no, the bwctld.limits file controls the BWCTL tool, not the NDT tool. The NDT tool only runs a series of fixed duration TCP tests. There are some configuration options (see the ndt.config man page for more details), but UDP testing is not one of these options.

The Knoppix-based NPT (Network Performance Toolkit) Live-CD contains 3 Intenet2-based tools BWCTL, NDT, and OWAMP, along with PSC's NPAD tool, and other tools may be added in the future. Each tool can provide a different view of your network. Combining these views can help the network administrator quickly and easily find/ifx network problems.

Details for all of these tools can be found at the Internet2 E2E web site http://e2epi.internet2.edu/ Follow the sidebar links to learn more about each tool. Each tool contains it's own configuration file.

I hope this answers your question.

Regards;
Rich

Hi to all of you,
I have set up an ndt wks using the Network Performance Toolkit (Knoppix)
image on a Vmware host. I am trying to customize it with different
profiles. Specifically I have modified the /usr/local/etc/bwctld.limits
file for ADSL usage, authenticated by an IP prefix list. The profile
has the following description:

limit adsl with parent=root, \
bandwidth=1m, \
duration=90, \
allow_tcp=off, \
allow_udp=on, \
allow_open_mode=on

When I connect to the web server through the java plugin I notice no
particular difference except the default setup.

So Is it possible to drive the plugin to read the aforementioned file ?
Is it possible to force the client to connect with udp ?

Cheers,
Dimitris
