Would doing something like this make sense instead of explicitly defining  
an _LN version of all the strings?

SRV_QUEUE_HEARTBEAT_STR, strlen(SRV_QUEUE_HEARTBEAT_STR)

gcc should optimize that out since it's a constant string.
