+ Microsoft Windows Update Offers Unique Network Research Opportunity
As an Advanced Content Distribution Project, Internet2 Corporate Partner
Microsoft is augmenting existing download paths for the newly released
Windows XP Service Pack 2 with a link to the Abilene backbone network. While
the Abilene link will be seamlessly incorporated into existing Windows
Update infrastructure from a user perspective, this project presents a
unique opportunity to gather information about large-scale software
distribution over a nationwide high-performance network infrastructure.
Network measurement and other data will be captured for the duration of the
project and provide the basis for applying the lessons learned during this
project to similar efforts in the Internet2 community. More information
about Advanced Content Distribution Projects is available at:
http://members.internet2.edu/corporate/cfp-contentcollab.html

+ HOPI Corporate Advisory Team Formed
Internet2's Hybrid Optical Packet Infrastructure (HOPI) project will now
benefit from the guidance of the newly formed HOPI Corporate Advisory Team
(CAT). HOPI-CAT is composed of distinguished individuals from Internet2
corporate members with technical expertise in packet and circuit switched
technologies, control plane design and implementation, measurement
technologies, and management of hybrid networks. HOPI-CAT will assist in
implementing innovative ideas in testbed environments, testing basic
principles and features, engaging standards bodies to create viable
operation standards, and promoting the transfer of new ideas to the
marketplace and community.

Internet2 is actively seeking proposals for advanced content projects
designed to help our member community better understand content application
performance; best practices for content and applications developers; and
best practices for applications management and monitoring; and ways that
advanced content-based applications can support the teaching, research, and
clinical missions of our universities. All Internet2 members are invited to
submit proposals, and corporate members are encouraged to participate.

in this sense can be people as grantors or as members, organizations as
owners, applications as program agents, etc. The current focus is to define
a useful and adequate set of common attributes for such subjects.
For details on Grouper, see: http://middleware.internet2.edu/dir/groups/
