+ Call for Demos
Internet2 is soliciting advanced networking applications demonstrations for
the Fall 2003 Internet2 Member Meeting, 13-16 October in Indianapolis, IN.
The Fall Member Meeting will offer multiple venues and opportunities for
demonstrations. One set of demos will run 13-15 October at the Indianapolis
Marriott Downtown, location of the Fall Member Meeting. In addition,
demonstrations will also take place in conjunction with an evening gala
reception, which will be held at the Indiana State Museum on 15 October.
The museum demo venues include an IMAX Theatre and the Dean & Barbara White
Auditorium. For the IMAX Theatre venue we would welcome one to two
interesting applications that take advantage of the IMAX technology, either
by using the theater to project your own content or providing content for
projection in IMAX format. For the Dean & Barbara White Auditorium, we are
soliciting one to two arts and humanities related applications that are
performance oriented. Internet2 university members, corporate members,
affiliate members, and international partners are all invited to participate
in the demos. Applications demonstrations from all disciplines are welcome.
For more information, refer to the call for demos web page. Submissions are
due June 23.

Internet2 advanced networks and associated campus networks. One
Internet2/ResearchChannel Working Group collaboration involves exploring
different technologies and methods for delivering digital video over IP.
Internet2 members participating in these experiments are using Comet DVIP
cards, provided by Internet2 corporate member Fujitsu Laboratories, and DVTS
(Digital Video Transport System) software, provided by collaborators at the
WIDE project. The Digital Video over IP project, along with several other
Internet2/ResearchChannel Working Group advanced media projects, will be the
focus of the July 17 Internet2 Virtual Briefing. For more information, or if

<> International Update
+ CLARA - Latin American Cooperation of Advanced Networks
On 9 June 2003, over 16 Latin American national research and education
networks joined together to formally constitute CLARA (Cooperacion Latino
Americana de Redes Avanzadas). CLARA is an international not-for-profit
organization (registered in Uruguay) that is promoting the cooperation among
the Latin American NRENs to foster science and technology and cohesive
regional networking developments in all Latin America and Caribbean (LA&C)
nations. CLARA will also be responsible for the implementation and
management of a network infrastructure that will interconnect the national
academic networks of several Latin American countries and the connections to
other networks of the world. Currently, CLARA is working with DANTE Ltd and
other European partners on the ALICE project (America Latina Interconectada
con Europa), a project that aims for the creation of a Latin American,
intra-regional, research networking infrastructure and its direct
interconnection to the pan-European research network GÉANT.

+ SERENATE Workshop
SERENATE is the name of a series of strategic studies into the future of
research and education networking in Europe, addressing the local (campus
networks), national (national research & education networks), European and
intercontinental levels. A final workshop was held June 16-17 as part of the
SERENATE study being carried out by the European research and education
networking community about its strategic future. Workshop presentations are
now available.
http://www.serenate.org/workshop5.html

Previous workshops during the study brought together industry vendors and
carriers to discuss market developments; network users to discuss
requirements and national research networks themselves to discuss technical,
organization and financial issues. A number of reports from these workshops
and other study elements are available at:
http://www.serenate.org/publications/

<> Middleware Update
+ Shibboleth
The Internet2 Shibboleth team is pleased to announce the availability of
release 1.0 of its Shibboleth implementation. This new release contains many
improvements and enhancements. A partial list is available by going to the

+ National Middleware Initiative (NMI)
CAMP - June 3-6, 2003, Boulder, Colorado
CAMP offered system architects and project managers involved in enterprise
middleware deployment an opportunity for learning and guidance on
management, policy, implementation and technology, with a special focus on
enterprise authentication. Presentation material for CAMP is now available
at:
http://www.educause.edu/conference/nmi/camp032/

ADVANCED CAMP - July 8-11, 2003, Boulder, Colorado
Registration is still open for Advanced CAMP. If you are a system architect
from a campus with a maturing middleware infrastructure and have experience
in identity management, enterprise directories, and authentication, join
your colleagues at Advanced CAMP, a meeting offering a highly focused,
highly-technical forum for learning and discussion on research in middleware
technologies, with an emphasis on authorization approaches. Registration is
available at:
http://www.educause.edu/conference/nmi/camp033/

+ New Working Group: MACE-CourseID
A new working group regarding course identifier descriptions has been
formed. MACE-courseID, the Internet2 Middleware Architecture Committee for
Education (MACE) course identifier working group, exists to further the
development of course identifiers for higher education and adapt existing
development for use in directory enabled infrastructures. This group will
leverage the eduPerson object class that includes widely used person
attributes in higher educations and build on the standards work in IMS. More
information is available at:

<> Internet2 K20 Initiative Update
+ Beta Testers Wanted For New myK20 Web Application
With 28 states networks currently connecting over 10,000 institutions to
Abilene via the SEGP program, the Internet2 K20 Initiative needed a more
scalable way to connect the growing SEGP community with Internet2-related
projects and applications. The myK20 service is designed to help identify,
stimulate, and connect innovators and advanced application projects across a
broad range of institutions. If you are interested in helping us test v1.0
of myK20 before it is released to the wider SEGP community, please visit
