Hi all,

Here is a list of most recent VR-themed research efforts done (and to be presented) by researchers across the world:

All will be presented as technical papers at the upcoming IEEE VR conference. Many will have video illustrations of their work.

best,
Amela

Fascinating example. Thanks for sharing this, Tom.

Not sure if this lines up with the request, but below is an example of VR being used for Civil Engineering students at U-M.

What was particularly cool was the group took the concept a little further and did a shared VR experience using multiple Oculus Rifts, which is closer to the Social VR activities this group is looking at.

Best,

Hi Chris, Ben, et al,

Yesterday you asked for examples of VR in Higher Ed and I thought I would point you to a game-based learning program in a virtual environment we built and trialled in a secondary school but is just as applicable in higher ed.

It was designed to assess difficult to measure competencies such as collaboration, innovation, leadership, etc.  and did so by analysing the actions, interactions and communications that occurred between avatars in the pursuit of a shared task:

Just thought it was worth sharing with the group.

Hi all,

Thanks to everyone who attended the Metaverse Working Group monthly meeting today!

The notes from today's discussion are located on our wiki site at:  https://spaces.internet2.edu/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=95715367

One key outcome is that we will attempt to meet in VR for our next meeting on April 5th using the AltSpaceVR platform:  http://altvr.com/  We'll also have a BlueJeans meeting as a backup in the event of technical difficulties. Participants can join the AltSpaceVR meeting either through VR or desktop (Mac or PC), and the following VR devices are supported:

- Samsung Gear VR
- Oculus DK2
- HTC Vive
- Perception Neuron
- Leap Motion
- Microsoft Kinect

For more details from today's meeting, see the meeting notes, and I'll send connection information for the AltSpaceVR room prior to next month's meeting.

Thanks!

- Chris
