Over the past thirty years, Professor Norman Finkelstein has been variously described as an intellectual pariah, a fanatic, controversial, contentious, an outstanding teacher and a prolific scholar. His detractors have denounced him as a “hysteric, a marginal ideologue, and a self-hating Jew.” His supporters have praised his “acuity of vision and analytical power," and noted that Finkelstein is "brilliant, very eloquent, exceedingly gracious, and polite.” The son of Nazi holocaust survivors, he is a vociferous critic of U.S. and Israeli policy in the Middle East. Notes Finkelstein, “It is precisely and exactly because of the lessons my parents taught me that I will not be silent when Israel commits crimes against the Palestinians.”
