Regional Networking Conference Provides Powerful Collaboration Opportunities to Benefit Research and Higher Education Community

Internet2 and Regional Networking Partner KINBER collaborate and discuss technology, research and diversity issues

 

WASHINGTON DC, April 26, 2016-- Internet2, operator of the nation’s largest and fastest, coast-to-coast research and education infrastructure, and The Keystone Initiative for Network Based Education and Research (KINBER), a Pennsylvania research, education and community network, recently joined forces at KINBERCON 2016 to discuss issues facing the research and education (R&E) community.

 

KINBERCON 2016, a two-day event in Philadelphia, convened more than 300 of Pennsylvania’s leaders in education, research, healthcare, economic development, libraries, public media, government and technology to share ideas and success stories about using next generation networks and technology. Breakout sessions included discussions on security, research, and innovation, and the event also featured a full day of technical training workshops.

 

Florence Hudson, Internet2’s Chief Innovation Officer, also delivered the opening keynote address about the endless frontier of IT and the Internet of Things.

 

"It was a pleasure to speak at this exciting event, especially on emerging topics that are so relevant to the R&E community," said Hudson. "It benefits the entire community when regional networks such as KINBER and Internet2 collaborate to address pressing issues and technical challenges, and to determine solutions that overcome barriers to propelling scientific innovation."

 

Additional highlights of the event included:

 

·       A joint workshop on the National Science Foundation Campus Cyber infrastructure Grant

·       A joint Performing Arts and Humanities workshop

·       A joint workshop to discuss perfSONAR

·       A discussion on diversity and unintended bias

·       A discussion on trust and identity resources at Internet2

·       A closing keynote presentation by Pennsylvania State Senator John Yudichak, who called KINBER “Pennsylvania's connection to the 21st century knowledge-based economy.”

 

Internet2 Research and Education Network Members such as KINBER are regional and state networks that, as principal aggregators of network traffic for the U.S. research and education community, play a critical role in the future of the national advanced research and education network infrastructure.
