University Presidents from Rensselaer, Colorado, Indiana, and Technology Executives from The World Bank, Akamai, Juniper and Princeton To Address 2014 Internet2 Global Summit

 

Speakers to discuss future of the university, global innovation and the future of the Internet

 

DENVER—March 31, 2014—Keynote speakers and panelists for the 2014 Internet2 Global Summit will discuss the future of the university, global innovation, and the future of the Internet during the 2014 Internet2 Global Summit, held Sunday, April 6 to Thursday, April 10 at the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel.

 

“The Internet2 community is excited to gather in Denver with our hosts, Colorado State University and the University of Colorado--Boulder. More than 800 technology, education and research leaders from around the world will discuss a new era of innovation,” said Internet2 President and CEO H. David Lambert. “In addition, Internet2’s Global Summit will highlight how higher education’s chief information officers and technologists throughout the research and education community are influencing the fields of advanced networking, trust and identity, cloud technologies and global research. The Global Summit's keynotes and sessions will greatly benefit in-person and online attendees.”

Monday, April 7, 1:15 pm

 

Chris Vein, Chief Innovation Officer for Global Technology Development at the World Bank, will deliver the “Global Innovation” keynote. Vein will focus on the power of advanced computer networks to spur innovation and transform emerging regions of the world by enabling valuable research on climate, agriculture, and medical developments to be broadly shared and accessed.

 

Prior to joining the World Bank, Vein was the Deputy U.S. Chief Technology Officer for Government Innovation in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Over the past two decades, Chris Vein has had the honor of serving four U.S. Presidents, thousands of professional association practitioners around the world, for-profit consulting organizations, and local government organizations. Tuesday, April 8, 10:30 am

 

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute President Shirley Ann Jackson, a theoretical physicist, will deliver the keynote address on the “Future of the University.” She envisions a “New Polytechnic,” harnessing the full potential of the “new data driven, supercomputer powered, web enabled, globally interconnected world,” and she is transforming Rensselaer to do just that, including creating the Rensselaer Institute for Data Exploration and Applications, the Rensselaer IDEA. Dr. Jackson is a member of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), on the Boards of global corporations including IBM and FedEx, and has held other senior leadership positions in government, business, and academe. 

 

Following the keynote address, University of Colorado Boulder Chancellor Dr. Philip P. DiStefano and Indiana University President Dr. Michael A. McRobbie will join President Jackson for a panel discussion moderated by Internet2 President and CEO H. David Lambert, focused on major drivers transforming education, science, technology and research nationally and globally, and the need to support these efforts.

 

Wednesday, April 9, 10:30 am

 

The “Future of the Internet” general session will feature Mike Hluchyi, Chief Technology Officer, Carrier Products for Akamai Technologies, Glenn Dasmalchi, Chief Technology Officer, Juniper Global Enterprise, and Larry Peterson, Princeton University’s Robert E. Kahn Professor of Computer Science, Emeritus and Director of the Princeton-hosted PlanetLab Consortium discussing the future Internet infrastructure supporting and bringing tomorrow’s content management, network programmability, services and the “Internet of Things” to life.
