Adva Optical Networking Joins Internet2

ADVA to collaborate with university-led R&D consortium members on CWDM,
DWDM, 10Gbit/s Ethernet and other optical networking technologies

Mahwah/New Jersey, USA, and Martinsried/Munich, Germany. April 12, 2005.
ADVA Optical Networking today announced its new corporate membership in
Internet2, the foremost U.S. advanced networking consortium lead by the
research and higher education community. ADVA joins more than 60 other
leading technology companies and service providers in working with
Internet2’s university and government members to develop and deploy network
services and capabilities for academic research and, ultimately, the broader
Internet community.

“It’s clear that optical networks, on-demand grid computing and
supercomputing infrastructures will play pivotal roles in enabling academic
researchers and eventually businesses to affordably and flexibly share and
access high-bandwidth applications and information resources,” said Jill
Arnold, director of member and partner relations with Internet2. “Our
community looks forward to collaborating with ADVA Optical Networking, a
company with in-depth experience in each of these areas.”

Brian P. McCann, Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer at ADVA Optical
Networking, commented, “ADVA’s new membership in Internet2 results from our
focus on the education and healthcare sectors and our responsibility to
deliver best-of-breed networks to these customers. By staying in touch with
the latest developments within the Internet2 community, we will be able to
better serve our enterprise customers as their needs continue to evolve. In
addition, we believe we have valuable insights to offer our Internet2
colleagues in key optical networking technologies such as Coarse and Dense
Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM, DWDM) and 10Gbit/s Ethernet. We look
forward to successful collaboration in this community and generating great
results for our customers.”

Engineers from ADVA are already providing expertise for Internet2’s Hybrid
Optical and Packet Infrastructure (HOPI) initiative - an effort examining
the requirements and performance of scalable next-generation backbone
networks that combine the best of packet and optical technologies.

“As part of the HOPI Corporate Advisory team, ADVA is providing insight on
advanced optical technologies at the backbone level. This will facilitate a
deeper understanding of these capabilities and how they operate in a
full-scale production environment,” said Arnold.

ADVA will also address the Internet2 community about metro/regional optical
network architectures for Internet applications at the upcoming Spring 2005
Internet2 Member Meeting, May 2 through May 4, in Arlington, Virginia.

ADVA’s Fiber Service Platform (FSP) is a portfolio of optical networking
products designed specifically for the delivery of high-speed services and
network infrastructure in the metropolitan area. Key enterprise
applications include storage connectivity, local area network connectivity,
and converged networking. Key carrier applications include flexible network
infrastructure, optical access/back-haul, Ethernet services, and storage
services. Employing leading technologies like CWDM/DWDM and Time Division
Multiplexing (TDM), the FSP systems enable up to 512 applications ranging
from speeds of 8Mbit/s to 10Gbit/s to be transported over a single fiber
pair up to 500 kilometers. The FSP portfolio includes the FSP 150, FSP
1500, FSP 2000, FSP 3000, and FSP Management Suite.
