USF TO HOST MULTICAST MUSIC EDUCATION VIDEOCONFERENCE WITH FACULTY FROM THE
UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON

The College of Visual and Performing Arts School of Music at the University
of South Florida (USF) will host internationally
acclaimed Dr. Carol Scott-Kassner at the University of Washington in Seattle
in an Internet2 videoconference on April 8th from 2
p.m. - 4 p.m. EST. Widely published, Dr. Scott-Kassner is the recipient of
numerous teaching and publication awards, and has been
elected to both national and international leadership positions in the field
of music education. Joining the conference from Seattle
will also be Dr. Kirk Kassner, a dynamic presenter on motivation and
management who specializes in the use of technology in music
education. This conference, simultaneously streamed live and multicasted
through DVTS (Digital Video Transport System) with the
assistance of USF's Educational Outreach department, will clearly demonstrate
how Internet2's audio and visual data carrying
capacities are ideally suited to interactive conferencing with live music.
Children from schools in the Tampa Bay area will perform
their own short compositions developed under the guidance of Dr. Sheila
Woodward and graduate students at the School of Music.
Internet2 will provide an optimum medium for the Seattle based clinicians to
interact with the performers and provide immediate
feedback. This event is open to the public.
