This is a local customization only at your school, did you intend to send this to the grouper-users list?

Subject: [grouper-users] Grouper Update: Descriptions and Display Names

Grouper was updated this morning to provision group descriptions and display names to LDAP.  The change will propagate to provisioned groups during the next sync tonight.  No action on your part is needed.

For those whose services are capable/configured to consume these 2 group attributes, this will allow groups to have more user-friendly display names and descriptions within the application.  If these are of interest, check with the vendor to see if the service uses either of these attributes.  Both can be managed in Grouper by editing the group's name and description as shown:

Word of caution: Group ID should rarely change, if ever.  Changing it will in many cases cause that group to become unavailable to services until they're reconfigured to use the new LDAP name.

Group (display) Names and Descriptions, on the other hand, are safe to change without impacting group availability.

As always, if there are any questions, feel free to let me know via email or case to 6-Tech.
