Shibboleth officially supports both jetty and tomcat.

Jetty no longer supports AJP, which is essential for any service running behind apache. We do that with both our IdPs and our group service.

We have non trivial investment in tomcat in terms of installer integration,
number of institutions running it, working out the kinks over the years.

I would prefer to focus on new features rather than shift around the
libraries unless there are significant gains.

However, Shib has interest in moving to Jetty, and TIER does like to be
consistent.

I think the startup time is based on hibernate being slow and other Grouper
startup checks, not based on the servlet container. We can think about
startup time in general (we mentioned it earlier today on the developer list
:) ) But if someone wants to correct me please do :)

That being said, I wonder who uses Grouper with Jetty. Maybe it will work
for you and you wont need our support :) Add your experience to your contrib
page :)

Thanks
Chris

Hi all,

Are there any formal plans for moving Grouper away from Tomcat in terms of
formal support? Jetty is faster and simpler - my opinion, of course and I am
always right! (Humor folks, humor). Yeah, I know, Tomcat is fine, no need
to change. Maybe compare startup times? This will be my one and only
request for this consideration.

Just curious….

C ya, bye.
