Hi,

We are running Grouper version 2.2.2. The UI and WS run in
Tomcat 6, but we are using the Tomcat 6 provided by the OS
packaging (Debian 7). It is 6.0.45+dfsg-1~deb7u1.

We are using Oracle Java 7.

We just saw this in the UI log:

Caused by: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space

I edited /etc/default/tomcat6 and set

JAVA_OPTS="-Djava.awt.headless=true -Xmx2048m -XX:MaxPermSize=512m 
-XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8"

and restarted Tomcat 6 and the UI is fine now.

I then looked at the Tomcat that the Grouper installer
deploys. It appears to be 6.0.35 and include this in
bin/catalina.sh:

JAVA_OPTS="-server -Xmx512M -XX:MaxPermSize=256M"

Is that a custom configuration done by the Grouper installer?
The Tomcat 6 included from the OS does not appear to have a
"out of the box" configuration for the MaxPermSize (that I can
find at least).

If so, does that indicate a Grouper requirement that the Tomcat 6
container be run with a MaxPermSize of at least 256M?

If so, can that be added as a requirement on this page:
