You can do subject api security by realm (students see certain things, staff 
see something else, or special staff).

We put directory information in the description, so if you can see it in the 
directory, you can see it in the description.

Admins see everything.

i.e. if someone's name is in the directory, you see that, and then netId (and 
maybe school/major if in directory).  IF its not, you would just see netId, 
or numeric pennid.

We recently started allowing delegated management of groups in
Grouper. The feedback has been good and the release of my time has
been wonderful!

The one confusing point we've seen is for people who manage student
memberships. Our description field in active directory is job title
for employees and "class of 20xx" for students. When adding a student,
the selection popup show a list of almost identical descriptions of
class year. It is particularly confusing when looking for a common
name like Smith without knowing the exact user name.

What do others use for the student description? Do you append name to
description?
