We got the change log consumer working with JIRA API earlier. We saw this comment in the grouper loader documentation "You should run the grouper loader all the time for any Grouper deployment.  It also runs background tasks even if you aren't automatically loading groups." is there a way to run/monitor this via UI?

Basically get the 2.3 branch grouperAtlassianConnector and grouperClient.  Build both of them.  Add in the jars in grouperAtlassianconnector.  And add in the properties from the grouperAtlassianConnector to the grouper.client.properties.  You need Grouper web services running.  Make sure web services run in Jira (i.e. if you use SSO you need to make sure they are exposed) Use V5 as the atlassian version in grouper.client.properties.

 

You can run it and it should sync things

 

edu.internet2.middleware.grouperAtlassianConnector.db.GrouperAtlassianDataReconcile     (as command line args pass in “full” and “readonly” or “notReadonly”)

Btw, I wouldn’t use rules to do provisioning, I would make a change log consumer like the other provisioners… (including Atlassian)

Hi Chris,

 

We think we are going to go ahead with using the JIRA API to add/ remove users to JIRA groups. We were thinking of using grouper rules to trigger the changes.

Do you have any example on using custom classes with the rule framework. Where do we put the java classes that we write to trigger rules?

 

Are there any other syncing mechanism with grouper that we could potentially use in place of rules to do the same?

I believe the recommended approach is to read groups from LDAP which are provisioned from Grouper.  You need isMemberOf and hasMember.  You might need to integrate through Atlassian Crowd, not sure.

 

At Penn we only have isMemberOf.   The connector currently syncs groups to the Atlassian tables, and relies on Atlassian reading from the tables every hour approximately.  So, at Penn when we change an Atlassian group in grouper it takes generally an hour to see it reflected in Jira/Confluence.   However, sometimes it doesn’t work (refreshing the cache from the DB) for whatever reason, so we nightly restart Atlassian.

 

Are you interested in the new approach?

 

Note, last summer (last time I checked), one of Jira|Confluence has a user/grouper WS API.  But the other didn’t so I didn’t pursue it.  When they both do we could use that to provision from grouper.
