There is a patch for 2.2 and 2.3.  Please apply the patch and try again.

At penn I did a gsh -registry -check -deep which is affected by this.  
Without the patch it takes 30 minutes, with the patch it takes 20 minutes.

I will make a patch to make this faster, but just curious, can you upgrade 
from 2.1.5 to 2.3.0?  That is better than going to 2.2.2  (or to 2.2.2 then 
to 2.3.0) I believe.

Can you run jstack on the process id and see where it is hung (after waiting 
a bit so it makes progress)?  Send the output along.  It should generate a 
script, not sure why it isnt.  What database / version are you using?  How 
many groups/memberships do you have?

I'm trying to upgrade a grouper 2.1.5 registry to 2.2.2
using the procedure described on this wiki page:

When I point an configure a 2.2.2 api to use the 2.1.5 registry and run
"gsh -registry -check". It just hangs after confirming that I want to
