Thanks Chris :).

Is this something anyone else would be interested in? We can post up the
code/config later if so.

Cheers,

Richard

We are in the early phases of the new attribute framework. Right now they
can only have preset (not freeform) values. Also the new attributes aren't
exposed over web service/UI yet. So the group type and attribute is the best
way to go for now.

Thanks,
Chris

Subject: [grouper-users] Unix GID's in Grouper

Hi there,

we're currently setting up a Development install of Grouper (1.5.0), with a
view to using it with a new Identity Management system we are in the process
of developing.

One requirement we have is to assign a Unix GID to created groups.

I had spotted the following archive message regarding this, which outlines a
few options, and seems to recommend hooks as being the best way to implement
this (https://mail.internet2.edu/wws/arc/grouper-users/2009-03/msg00043.html).

Now that 1.5 has introduced the new attribute framework, I'm wondering
whether it would be easier to add a hook which creates the read only GID as
an attribute assigned directly to the group, rather than creating a custom
group type and attribute.

Would hooks and an attribute assigned to the group be the best way of doing
this, or are there any other options?

Thanks in advance!

Richard
