Thank you for the response to my Mac wrinkle... I have now successfully built grouper, created an sql database, inserted default data to same, run the grouper test suite, created a distribution, set the configuration values, build the javadocs, and set the CLASSPATH for my sandbox installation. My next step is to create a "real" test installation for everybody to poke at.
My one comment beyond the thank-you is about the sql GUI: you might stick a one-liner in the README that gives a heads-up on the GUI, and what to do. I clicked "Execute" and sat here humming until it seemed to be done, then clicked "Exit" -- only to have the GUI reopen like a vampire looking for blood, and me with no silver bullet. Then I realized that the statement in the execution window was different, so I clicked "Execute" again, and sat here humming... while lock errors scrolled up my X11 window. I was rather uneasy about that, since the README said that I shouldn't worry if there were warnings during the running of the test suite.
