No, we do not use the built-in include/exclude group type.  We do, of course, use composite groups for policy groups. The factor groups are labeled as allow and deny groups as described in the GDG.  Carl has gsh python scripts that set up the structure for us.

For building ref groups from basis or other ref groups we do create composites as necessary, usually intersects, but generally do not have the include/exclude structure you may have seen in some of the older grouper docs.  As a rule we try to keep the reference groups “clean” as it were, and adjust policy or add more reference groups as needed.
