New Action Items from April 8, 2015

[AI] (Misagh) contact Unicon re licensing issues for contribution of Grouper ESB Connector for AMQP Brokers

[AI] (Chris) start wiki with suggestions for Grouper Contributions (use java, use libraries, use config overlay files consistent w existing Grouper architecture, discuss the work in advance with Grouper  developers)

[AI]  (Tom) put the message format issue on agenda for next  Grouper-Dev call.

Completed Action Items with Link

(Misagh) add the build/dependency environment issue (Ivy, Maven, Gradle) to the Grouper roadmap

and start a wiki page listing requirements.  Link to the wiki page is here

(Chris) show example of Person Web Service to illustrate how we might proceed regarding message formats,   including configuration example.

Carry Over Action Items

[AI] (Chris) work on moving objects via web service (started)

[AI] (DaveL) record ideas about handling categories (Brown’s case) based on the Feb. 11 Grouper call discussion on the Post PSP Provisioning page

[AI] (Misagh and Chris) tested the unmappable character  issue using Unicode. Then created wiki page to document the approach.   Misagh created a JIRA for a new issue he found.
Non-english chars don’t seem to render correctly

https://bugs.internet2.edu/jira/browse/GRP-1128

Chris suggests to try this on installed version, not on Dev.  STILL TO DO FOR Misagh

[AI] (DaveL) follow up on provisioning empty groups to LDAP to be sure the solution is documented

[AI] (Dave) as we go, document areas where SCIM may need improvement so we can add to the wishlist for SCIM 3. (ongoing TODO)  Page with list

[AI] Tom to bring pen testing need into TIER process (remains long term)

DISCUSSION

 Grouper team items

  • Welcome Vivek Sachdeva

  • Upcoming TIER user stories

    • there have been a series of TIER workshops with CIOs and Identity Architects.

    • Collecting user stories

    • by next week those stories should be compiled

    • A small group, including TomB, will review the user stories

    • Requirements will emerge from the user stories

  • Grouper BoF Topics (Apr 28, 2015 @ Global Summit)

    • status of Grouper 2.3 release (it’s in the works)

    • acknowledge who is involved in the Grouper Dev Team

    • Provisioning Strategy - the high level picture

    • Deployer Sketches now categorized, based on community requests at Grouper BOF at 2014 Technology Exchange . Thoughts? Additional suggestions? Are there Grouper Deployers present in the room who would be willing to share a sketch on how they are planning to use Grouper or currently using Grouper? If yes, please see Emily or email her at

  • June 10, 2015 IAM Online to focus on Grouper:  plan is to have a few sites present their Grouper deployment experiences and future plans. Will be similar in structure to Grouper IAM Online in March 2013. See archive here.

Grouper ESB Connector for AMQP Brokers (see email)

  • Thanks to U Hawaii & Unicon!

  • Any feedback?

  • Process to determine if this should make its way into core (provided of course that they are willing)?

    • functional review

    • additional jars, other dependencies?

    • contributor agreements?

    • license?

    • demonstration environment?

    • supportable?

    • unit tests

    • Be consistent with the Grouper Architecture

    • Config overlays, etc

    • Some discussion with Grouper Dev team along the way

[AI] (Misagh) contact Unicon re licensing issues for contribution of Grouper ESB Connector for AMQP Brokers

[AI] (Chris) start wiki with suggestions for Grouper Contributions. Even state the obvious, Eg, use java, use libraries, use config overlay files consistent w existing Grouper architecture, discuss with Grouper-Dev ,

Grouper v2.3 status & roadmap

Overview of build environment options (ivy, Maven, Gradle etc.)

Misagh summary of Grouper Shell Improvements discussion on the call

Which developer will work on which tasks for Grouper 2.3?

  • Build/ Shell Enivronment - Misegh and Dave
  • PSP - Dave
  • New UI - Chris
  • Improve Folder Privileges -Shilen
  • Loader - less important

Feedback from the field: Misagh has been hearing that work on New UI (adding additional functionality to the New UI)  is very important.

Group Sets

Issue raised in email from University of Oxford, see emails of April 8, 2015

If the suggested approach Shilen suggested works, perhaps we should document it in the wiki. Suggestion is: “Make the group that is being assigned the 95K read privs into a composite group (e.g. union or complement with an empty group). that should significantly reduce the group sets because composite groups are essentially flattened in the database”
