Discussion

Building on the success of the scribing approach used last week (Oct 2014) at Advance CAMP, we will experiment taking notes of today's call using a Google doc in which all chip in.

Grouper v2.2.1 Release

Dave is fixing some library compatibility issues.

Dave doing test builds and then will tag the PSP.

Dave will push Grouper to Maven Central.

It will be helpful if people on this call can do some testing of the Grouper 2.2.1 release

-the provisional code is available to grab and test

Chris is testing on HSQL or MYSQL

Shilen will do some testing

Lafayette College plans to download the latest Grouper release and do some testing. They hope to provide feedback over the next month. Such feedback will likely go into Grouper 2.2.2 release.

Chris will announce the release of Grouper 2.2.1 to the community when all the testing and release steps are completed.

Goal is to release Grouper 2.2.1 on Friday Nov. 7, 2014

Grouper debrief from 2014 Technology Exchange in Indianapolis

  • Grouper WG session, Oct. 29. 2014

    • Provisioning NexGen for Grouper 2.3

      • changelog -> messaging platform (top 2 or 3)

        • AMQ

        • AWS

      • Grouper(DaveL) to build messaging -> LDAP / AD

      • Chris: we should also have a database approach

        • Java interface with basic messaging functions

        • messaging “adapters” can integrate with this interface

        • LDAP and AD connectors would integrate here rather than changelog

    • Hope the Grouper Upgrader will help users with ease of moving from one Grouper version to the next.

      https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/Grouper/Grouper+Installer

      • Grouper Upgrader now works for the PSP also

      • Might add some validation functions to the Grouper Upgrader in the future

      • Should we add a GUI wizard in the future? Not sure,  maybe the command line interface is OK for the Grouper Installer/Upgrader

      • [AI] (Chris) add the movie about the upgrader to the Grouper download page DONE

    • Lafayette is interested in more clarification on the preferred installation approach for a production install. What is best practice?

    • [AI] (Chris) Clarify this issue of when to use the Grouper Installer on this wiki page: https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/Grouper/Grouper+Installer DONE

  • Community Contributions page was updated during and after Technology Exchange.  Thanks to the community members who have added valuable content to help other sites get going and advance with Grouper deployment

    https://spaces.internet2.edu/display/Grouper/Community+Contributions
  • There is a request for an easier way to see in the documentation how various campuses are approaching integrating between Grouper and AD or Grouper and Google, etc.  Try using Tags in Confluence.  [AI] (Emily) will look into providing better, easier to find, documentation on deployment experiences with Grouper and AD, Grouper and Google Groups, etc. perhaps using Confluence tags

  • Advance CAMP sessions on Grouper (Oct. 27 and Oct 28, 2014)

    • Loader performance

U Colorado Boulder  - liked the Technology Exchange, will meet soon with DaveL to move forward with planning for Grouper deployment, thinking Grouper will address several needs.

SCIM, interfaces, & IETF - discuss this at next Grouper-dev call on Nov. 19, 2014

Note: Collaborative Scribing of the Grouper-dev call in a Google doc seemed to work well. Will plan to keep using this approach.

Next Grouper Call : Nov. 19, 2014
