I should add that I've put up a page on the Wiki at

If you look under the "Snapshots" and "Snapshot Documentation" links  
you'll find pre-built binary and documentation tar.gz and zip files.  
No Maven required.

These are on my personal website rather than I2 at the moment, but any  
releases will be on I2.
