*Discussion*
-Developer Support-
{Tom} shared with the Group that {Blair Christensen} will be reducing his time on the Grouper project, though he is still committed and will be contributing to Grouper development in a very direct way. It will be important for contributing developers to utilize the Grouper mailing lists and JIRA for communicating with {Blair}, as he will no longer be able to join the Working Group conference calls.
{Michael} advised that real efforts be made to establish dedicated resources and that there be related, adequate, and timely communications about any changes to the development structure and model.
The Group also discussed that community development should not imply subsequent support for those items developed. The product should provide sufficient support to carry the project along, accepting that help from the community is voluntary, as they have items to contribute, and should not be a part of the support model itself.
Offering a clear development and support model will additionally serve those campuses evaluating Grouper.
-JIRA submissions-
[AI] {Shilen} will submit a JIRA issue requesting to combine two queries when a subject is created and when the attributes are retrieved.
{James} reported that he has entered 7 issues in JIRA. He noted that there are a few components missing in JIRA, with no way to distinguish between, e.g., Ldappc and Subject API issues. {Jessica} said that Internet2 Technical Support has been contacted with the request to define additional permissions for developers in the Middleware space in JIRA, and she will further investigate the status of that request.
{Michael} requested further discussion on the issues surrounding LDAP connection pooling. [AI] {Michael} will post a JIRA issue on the use of Ruby on Rails.
-Update on upcoming release v1.2.2-
Additional items to be incorporated into the next release include the Grouper shell document, where the current version has not been updated in the wiki. While each of the main developers finalizes particular components (API, UI, etc.), {Tom} also has the responsible for solidifying the actual release date. {Tom and Jessica} then work with all to ensure that the documentation accurately reflects those changes and he notifies the mailing-lists of the release' availability.
The next Grouper Working Group conference call will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at 12pm EDT.
