In order for me to play with comanage as it is now - I need to integrate and configure the shib SP environment just to be able to see and play with comanage - seems to be a high-ish barrier to entry.

But it's all point and clicky :-) If you've got access to a local IdP (we've all got test IdPs and test federations, right?), it takes less than 15 minutes to boot the VM and get federated login working. Obviously, it takes longer if you're adding the COmanage instance to a real federation like InCommon, where the turnaround time on updates is slower.

One of the goals of these early releases is to test the setup routines and packaging to ensure that they're easy to use for people deploying COmanage.

May I suggest we either provide a network version of COmanage (as I had done with comanage.internet2.edu)

Sure... once it's ready for users.

OR you reconfigure the VM to use localhost only for shib SP and credentials thus allowing me to immediately experience comanage and then maybe provide a config option allowing me to easily integrate into my own shib environment.

I'm not a huge fan of this, since we're just delaying the inevitable federated or bilateral setup. I've been trying to leave the IdP out of COmanage for the beta releases, since we also need to integrate Sharpe, etc.
