Colleagues,
I’m writing with a request, a reminder, and, well, an excuse.
I’ll start with the excuse. The Internet2 NET+ team has been tasked by our benevolent overlord to spend the month of August cleaning up some technical and operational debt. We are rewrite web pages, auditing program contact lists, gathering stats, drafting newsletters, etc. A lot of overdue housekeeping that has us all very busy. For me personally the month is compressed because I’m going on vacation next week. This means that we’ve cancelled some meetings, like our NET+ AWS Service Advisory Group, our NET+ AWS quarterly call for August, and we are going to miss some others.
This brings me to the reminder. Today at 8am PDT/11am EDT we have our regular bi-weekly Tech Share. I missed the last one because of AWS Imagine (as did Jan and Kevin), I’ll miss today’s because of our other work, and I’ll miss next week’s because I’ll be stuffing myself full of blueberries in Maine. Jan Day and Kevin Murakoshi have bravely acquiesced to be your hosts and moderators. Please show up in numbers, bring lots of updates, and questions, make Kevin look stuff up (gasp!), but above all, be kind to them.
Now, the request. Last month’s NET+ AWS Strat Call was all about the AWS Cloud Innovation Centers at ASU, CalPoly, and Pitt. We saw presentations of five different projects the student teams built and we want to pick a couple for upcoming Barn Raisings. If you were there but did not vote, please do so here. If you were not there, please take a moment to read the write up of the meeting or watch the video and then vote. I was supposed to have this wrapped up by August 7 but this whole internal project swept it from my mind. It would be lovely if you could all vote by the end of this week.
Oh, and look for that newsletter at the end of the month, assuming I make it back from the climbs in Acadia. It will contain the results of the Barn Raising vote, information about other upcoming quarterlies, and a bit of a bombshell. I’ll just leave it at that.
