Hi Ben, Walt and team
This looks great and I really want to go to these workshops. Unfortunately I will be leading similar workshops (smaller in scope) here in Australia and so I will be unable to attend (very sad) ;-(.

I would like to bring your attention to the following VoIP-related
activities planned for the upcoming Internet2 Member Meeting in
Austin, TX. Keep these in mind as you make your travel plans.

* Emergency Communications BoF (September 28)
http://events.internet2.edu/2004/fall-mm/sessionDetails.cfm?session=1725&event=219
As voice over IP (VoIP) moves to production, solutions must be
deployed to provide emergency communications that match or exceed
what users expect from wireline services. The migration to VoIP also
provides the opportunity to reduce costs and to increase the speed,
reliability, and functionality of emergency response, emergency
alert, and disaster recovery systems. This BoF will survey relevant
current activities and provide a forum for discussing how Internet2
might better organize to exploit new opportunities in this space.
* Campus/Enterprise Roundtable on VoIP and Integrated
Communications (September 29) http://events.internet2.edu/2004/fall-mm/sessionDetails.cfm?session=1605&event=219
In the last year we have seen a rapid acceleration in the
convergence of voice and data and in the emergence of
standards-based integrated communications applications that
integrate multiple real time media types in the context of
presence. To understand the implications and opportunities for
campuses and enterprises, Internet2 has brought industry and
academia together to develop and deploy new applications and
services. This session will include project updates from several key
collaborative initiatives, several case studies of the
campus/enterprise view of VoIP and integrated communications, and a
roundtable discussion of obstacles and opportunities going forward.
* VoIP Workshop (September 30th - October 1st)
http://voip.internet2.edu/meetings/200409-workshop/
This hands-on workshop will provide an overview of emerging voice
over IP (VoIP) technologies, including: the session initiation
protocol (SIP), IP-based voice disaster recovery, IP-TDM media
gateways, and VoIP quality monitoring. Working in several small
groups, attendees will bring up several working VoIP systems in a
testbed environment. Attendees will learn to configure a SIP proxy,
to add SRV and NAPTR records to DNS, and to provision SIP hard and
soft phones. Attendance may be limited to ensure that the workshop
is focused and interactive.
