I sent this to a couple of lists, so you may see this twice.
1. The FCC VoIP open hearings continue this Thursday, I plan on being there.
2 .Here's another new startup in the Mid Atlantic states -
http://phonom.com/. Cavalier is the company that bought Net2000 assets out
of bankruptcy. I have some concern about the low costs from these new
companies (Much like the DSL world). This one is charging $65.00 for DSL,
Unlimited local and LD. The margins must be very small which means they're
going to need a lot of customers to recoup investments etc....
Glad to see this business taking off, however. Here's their E911
Disclaimers. CBP
4. 911 Service.
(a) Phonom's 911 service is NOT be the same as 911 service from a telephone
company, because IT WILL NOT WORK UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES, INCLUDING BUT
NOT LIMITED TO CIRCUMSTANCES WHERE (i) YOU LOSE POWER TO YOUR PHONOM
EQUIPMENT, (ii) YOU MOVE YOUR PHONOM EQUIPMENT TO A DIFFERENT ADDRESS OR
LOCATION , (iii) YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION SPEED DECREASES OR YOUR CONNECTION
TO THE INTERNET IS INTERRUPTED, (iv) YOUR SERVICE IS DISCONNECTED FOR
NON-PAYMENT, OR (v) A SERVICE OUTAGE OCCURS FOR ANY OTHER REASON. You agree
to convey the limitations stated in the preceding sentence to any household
residents, guests and other third persons who enter the premises where you
use Service. You also agree to provide Phonom with 30 days' advance written
notice if you wish to change the address for your Service. You acknowledge
that Phonom's 911 service may not be available at a new address.
(b) You acknowledge and agree that Phonom's liability is limited for any
Service outage or other inability to use 911 service. You agree to defend,
indemnify, and hold harmless Phonom, its officers, directors, contractors,
employees, affiliates, and agents from and against any and all claims,
losses, damages, fines, penalties, costs and expenses (including but not
limited to reasonable attorneys fees) by, or on behalf of, your or any third
party or user of Services, relating to the absence, failure, or outage of
Service, or other inability to use 911 service.
(c) You acknowledge and understand that, if you did not provide your correct
physical address to Phonom, then emergency personnel will be routed to the
WRONG LOCATION. You acknowledge and understand that Phonom does not offer
primary line or lifeline services, and that you should have an alternative
means for contacting 911 services.
(d) Unlike traditional telephone service, Phonom's Service is portable and
can be used at any location with broadband Internet access that meets certain
technical requirements. If you seek to use the Service at another location,
other than the physical address that you provided to Phonom, then 911 calls
will automatically be routed to the emergency call center for the ADDRESS ON
FILE and not any other address from which you may be using the Service. For
example, if you live in Philadelphia and give Phonom your Philadelphia
address for 911 purposes, but then travel to Miami and use the Service to
call 911, your call will go to the emergency call center for your
Philadelphia address. Additional charges may also apply for use at locations
other than the address on file.
