I should have replied long ago.

Australia is in a similar position in terms of Carrier pricing so the
business case for using VoIP is very strong.

In Australia the Universities and Research organisations run a large
Internet network linking them together and to the Internet as a whole. 
this is called AARNet.

AARNet has implemented a very large VoIP network with PABXs connected
using Cisco Gateways (40 at last count) and Cisco IP Telephones (2,000
handsets and growing) and connecting on average 7,000 calls per day. 
Some of the PABXs are NEC, GPT, and Nortel, but most are Ericsson.

I guess we can help with configs, what IOSs, and experiences.  Some of
which is published on the AARNet web site at www.aarnet.edu.au and look
under the R&D.  I wish I had more time to keep it up to date so if there
is something which is confusing or you hit a security page please let me
know.

PS: I am looking forward to interconnecting the Australian VoIP network
with the Internet 2 VoIP network in North America as we will have an IP
link with QoS between Australia and the US in the next couple of weeks. 
Perhaps we could do the same to Brazil??
