I'd like to see the group really test the hypothesis that IM&P works
best as a campus/enterprise-enabled service. It makes little
difference whether its XMPP or SIMPLE (though pragmatism would seem to
argue in favor of the former). What matters is that we get the
plumbing right.

It's interesting that Google is allowing open XMPP federation and, at
the same time, allowing campuses to point their MX records at GMail
[1]. It's almost as if they are trying to conduct a bake-off between
enterprise-enabled and hosted communications.

P.S. I don't think much of protocol interworking and gatewaying.
Internet2 should test grand ideas, not do grunt work.
