*Attendees*
Rodger Will (chair) - Ford
Joe Rork - Ford
Deke Kassabian - Penn
Ben Chinowsky (scribe) - Internet2
*Discussion*
Turnout was light due to several PIC regulars being at the Cisco Higher
Education CALEA Panel. Ben T.'s notes from this event are at
http://people.internet2.edu/~ben/blog/archives/000090.html
Neither Rodger nor Joe can make next week's call. [ACTION] (1/26) Rodger will
identify someone to chair the February 2 PIC call.
There was a brief discussion of where XMPP fits into PIC's work. There was
general agreement that PIC should work with XMPP to the extent that it
furthers
interoperability and rich presence. A few years ago SIP was the obvious
choice for both, but this is no longer the case. With respect to interop,
Google's open federation is a promising start. With respect to rich presence,
XMPP isn't just about IM; Deke cited his hassle-free experience using iChat
voice via Google Talk. The group agreed to continue this discussion on the
February 2 call.
