1. Federation. A federation is a collection of domains that agree to trust
each other for the purpose of enabling access to one another's resources.
These
resources may include: attribute information, presence information, devices,
experts, and gateways. A federation must use shared protocols; a collection of
tunnels is not a federation.

2. Relationship between federations and peer-to-peer. A federated domain may
have a peer-to-peer architecture. While the domain has to have a single point
of
contact with other domains, the single point of contact doesn't have to be a
nexus of intra-domain communication; the domain doesn't have to be organized
in
a centralized way.
